Asian Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Group (APHOG)

APHOG

The journey of Asian Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Group (APHOG) started back to 2012 when the SIOP Asia 2012 Congress was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The leaders of pediatric hematology and oncology in Asia gathered in a small room where we discussed on how we Asian leaders should work together for improving the cure rate and even the care levels for the survivors of childhood cancer in Asia. This was because more than a half of children with cancer in the world occur in Asia with very poor outcome.

In March, 2021, APHOG was finally and officially founded with a help of NGO-Magokoro Organization for Childhood Cancer (MOCC) which supports financial and official issues of APHOG. APHOG acts as an action team of SIOP Asia, just like a Chinese proverb “Two-Wheels of a Cart”.

The Executive Council should establish the structure of APHOG as well as to start its practical activities in collaboration with SIOP, SIOP Asia, WHO and other global societies like St. Jude Global, etc. In the APHOG Advisory Board, the leaders of main collaborative children’s cancer clinical study groups in Asia (INPHOG, ThaiPOG, TPOG, CCCG, KPHOG, JCCG and RSPOH) have already joined us. Nomination of the representatives of each Asian country is going on according to the SIOP global mapping of Asia. Your joining is very welcome.

Current actions and events; the APHOG Annual Meeting with the General Assembly, the event of “WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (WHO GICC) in Tokyo”, the “APHOG/SIOP Asia Joint Scientific Symposium” (virtual), and the “APHOG Global Seminar” (virtual). The completion of the APHOG structure including several committees as well as setting the practical clinical study protocols is on the way.

The collaboration between SIOP Asia and CCI Asia dated back to the year of 2006 in Shanghai, marking the first CCI Asia conference held in conjunction with SIOP Asia conference. By then the SIOP Asia Conference LOC Chair and SIOP-Asia President, Dr Wang Yaoping, provided great support and made pivotal contributions to make it possible.

This collaboration laid an excellent foundation for future CCI Asia conferences in conjunction with SIOP Asia conferences, including 2008 Muscat, 2012 Jogjakarta, 2014 Seoul, 2015 Amman, 2016 Moscow, 2017 Bangkok, 2019 Abu Dhabi, 2021 Mumbai, 2022 Guangzhou, 2024 Yokohama.

CCI Asia has maintained a close working relationship with all SIOP Asia Presidents, starting from the late Dr Wang Yaoping, followed by Dr Purna Kurkure, Dr Akira Nakagawara, Dr Chi-Kong Li, Dr Rashmi Dalvi, and currently Dr Hiroki Hori. This partnership has ensured that CCI Asia is consistently invited to participate in the annual SIOP Asia meetings, enabling the sharing of CCI Asia activities whenever possible.

Japanese Society of Pediatric Oncology Nursing (JSPON)

JSPON 日本小児がん看護学会

The Japan Society of Pediatric Oncology Nursing(JSPON) is the only academic society in Japan involved in nursing researchers and practitioners working with children with cancer and their families. JSPON organizes academic conferences, seminars, and e-learning to help nurses supporting children with cancer and their families to acquire advanced knowledge and skills. Additionally, aiming to improve the QOL for these children and their families, board members developed the "Pediatric Cancer Nursing Care Guidelines" through the research.

JSPON's current and former presidents and members of the International Exchange Committee and the first president of JSPON are also participating as Local of Committee nursing members of SIOP Asia 2024. We are planning an attractive program for nurses in Asia, including pediatric oncology nursing up-to-date, pain management, end-of-life care, and measures against exposure to antineoplastic agents.

We hope you will all come to Japan in good season and enjoy not only the program but also the sightseeing.
